Use the free SurroundZone2 software to decode the B-Format files into whatever surround and immersive format is required. The ST450 MKII generates audio in any format including mono, stereo, M/S, 5.1 surround and beyond. The M/S encoded files are interleaved stereo with the mid on the left and the side on the right. Included are 4 channel SoundField B-Format, M/S encoded raw and decoded stereo WAV files. I had the Schoeps MK4/MK8 MS microphone in my left hand using a boom pole and in my right hand was my iPhone to record the video. My goal was to get a nice balanced Ambisonic recording so I used a microphone stand and the SoundField ST450 was centred between Hueys. I placed the SoundField ST450 approximately 150 feet in front of the helicopters. It takes them quite a while to prepare and safety check the helicopters for departure so I had plenty of time to set up the SoundField ST450 and have my Schoeps MK4/MK8 MS rig on the boom pole. I patiently waited for the Huey crews to return so I could record them starting up. A short time later they both flew in and landed for a lunch break. Only one Huey flew in to swap crew members and then it was off to the lake. Once I had the microphone on a boom pole I was ready to step outside onto the cold, windy runway. The SoundField ST450 MKII has internal heaters and they can take a few minutes to warm the capsules so the humidity doesn’t affect them. Frank takes up the story.Īs soon as I heard him get the call they were on their way back I prepped the SoundField ST450 MKII Ambisonic Microphone for recording. He caught up with them when they landed at his local airport and it transpired they would be flying in and out all day. A member of the numerous Huey family, it first flew in 1969.įrank Bry grabbed the opportunity to record the UH-1N Iroquois helicopter when 2 flew over his house. The Bell UH-1N Twin Huey is a twin-engine medium military helicopter. The Twin Huey HD Pro library is the sound of the UH-1N Iroquois.

You can read the full interview on the A Sound Effect blog. It worked very well and we managed to get a couple of minutes of wild fire before it went bust. I built a little house out of those and hid one of the lavs inside, and then placed it as far away as possible from where the fire was set to start. To protect them as much as I could I bought fireproof material normally used for insulating house walls. But in addition to that, DPA was kind enough to give us two 4061 lavs that we could put inside the house to really capture the sound of being in a house that’s on fire. The mics I used were two Sennheiser MKH 8060 as shotguns, a Holophone recording in stereo, two Schoeps CMC6 in XY stereo, a Telinga with a Sennheiser MKH 8020, two EV RE50 and an ORTF with Sennheiser MKH 8040s. There was also a tool shed close by, behind which I found some corrugated metal sheets that I used as a heat shield to cover a shotgun mic. I used bricks I found in a heap to build walls where I could hide less expensive mics (EV RE20s) and that way I was actually able to get rather close to the fire as well. A few crackles, sparks, and debris are also included as sweeteners in The Burning House Library.Īsbjoern from A Sound Effect interviewed recordist Mats Lundgren from Pole Position Production about how this opportunity came about and some of the challenges it presented. A number of microphones were positioned around the house to cover the exteriors, and one microphone was inside the house to cover the early stages of the fire spreading inside. It contains fire at various intensities and random debris as the house falls apart. This first FSRealistic pack will introduce at least 24 improved sounds, which can easily be enabled through the included user interface.A burning building is a pinnacle of danger, but here's your chance to hear a controlled one! This library captures a wooden summer cottage burning down to the ground. Expect to also see a Camera Effects pack and a Visual Effects pack down the line, but the improved sounds will be coming first, also because the SDK doesn’t yet support camera effects.

However, the developer published this weekend a preview video of the Sound Effects to be included with this add-on, the first pack of a series of 3 that will attempt to improve the levels of immersion in MSFS. A website already exists, albeit with little more than a newsletter subscription box.

Finding the default sounds in Microsoft Flight Simulator to be a little underwhelming? Maybe the reverse thrust doesn’t quite feel as powerful as it should, or the ground roll sounds much quieter than you expect? If you’d like to hear more realistic sounds in your simulator, then take note of a new upcoming add-on for MSFS that aims to do exactly that: FSRealistic, the MSFS version of the popular XPRealistic add-on for X-Plane.įSRealistic was teased by the developer, rkApps, a few months back.
